News October 2016

A Message from our President

Welcome Home!  Another season will be quickly upon us and oh what an interesting season it will be!  By the end of November all the sidewalk construction will be complete around Town Square/Memorial Fountain making it a beautiful gem in the center of Palm Beach.

Help us to start some ‘Meet Me In The Square’ events throughout the 2016-17 season.  What type of events would you or your business like to have?  What events do you think would be a good draw for your business?  This could be fun, so let’s put our heads together and create some fun ‘square’ events!

So you ask, what kind of GSCRA meetings are we going to have this season?  That’s a great question!  We’re going to have several breakfast meetings, but we’ll also have some after-hour events to appeal to all businesses, owners and employees alike. The goal is to bring the business district together and spot light each and every business.

Help us kick off our season at Chez L’Epicier with our very gracious hosts, Veronique Denault and Laurent Godbout, who are celebrating their first-year Anniversary! Join us at 288 S County Road, their Palm Beach restaurant with a Montreal-inspired ambiance that complements the demanding and eclectic tastes of Palm Beach and visitors alike. We also welcome the Palm Beach Daily News as our continued ‘kick-off’ sponsor for GSCRA for yet another season and look forward  to hearing what’s new in the printed and electronic world of news reporting.

Bring your neighbors, bring your friends … spread the word that GSCRA MEANS BUSINESS!

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

The GSCRA reached out to Burkhardt Construction for an update, and here is what we learned:

All the sidewalks are poured, but the milling and tabby paving will be done the week of October 23-30 in nighttime hours only. This will not disrupt the current flow of traffic; however it could disrupt the traffic during the wee hours of the night.

Palm trees were just installed and the rest of the greenery will be installed on schedule.

The hurricane did set things back a bit as Burkhardt had to demobilize the site and remobilize after it passed. But this will not prevent them from meeting the original deadline of November 30th.

All and all, Tony Sabatino at Burkhardt Constructions is “very pleased with how the project is progressing.”

CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING

We all look forward to the Holiday Tree Lighting even more this year as it will be back at the beautifully restored Memorial Fountain AND the sidewalk project will be 99% done!

On Tuesday, November 29th, the South County Road Association will co-sponsor this year’s holiday festivities with the Town of Palm Beach on South County Road. Please gather at 4:45 pm, with the program starting promptly at 5 p.m. with the tree lighting planned for 5:30 p.m. Come early to enjoy musical entertainment by the Kings Academy chorus, followed by the speedy arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus via fire truck (Rudolf is resting at the North Pole). Best holiday wishes will be offered by VIPs, town officials, Mayor Gail Coniglio and Santa, who will give candy canes to the children. The tree will be back at in Town Square!

We encourage all members of the GSCRA to shop locally…and, don’t forget to bring an unwrapped gift to leave beneath the tree for a child in need.
